Beckenbauer's job is closely tied to Germany's most famous soccer club, Bayern München. He joined the club in 1958 and made his very first team debut in 1963. As captain he led the team to three European Champions Clubs' Cups and four national titles using the club. In 1971 he was appointed captain of West Germany's national team, leading it into 1972 European Championship together with 1974 World Cup. He had been known as European Footballer of the Year in 1972 and 1976. Beckenbauer went on to relax and play with all the New York Cosmos and Hamburg before retiring in 1984. He played an overall total of 103 caps. As a member of this National Soccer Hall of Fame, he came in second into the European athlete of the Century election, only behind the Dutch player Johan Cruyff.
After retiring as a new player, Beckenbauer coached the West German nationwide Team and led it to victory in the field Cup in Italy in 1990. After he resigned as nationwide manager, Beckenbauer became president and advisor of Bayern München. As a sports official, he dedicated himself to organizing the FIFA 2006 World Cup in Germany as President associated with 2006 World Cup Organizing Committee
